Photographer of the Month ~ Linda Martinson

In my past professional life, I worked on economic analysis and rate case financing at the Georgia Power Company for several years, which was much more fun than it sounds. After we got Plant Vogtle on line (it is the last nuclear plant commissioned in the US), I moved on to Georgia Tech, another bastion of engineering and male authority. There I worked my way up to Vice President of Planning, Budget and Finance. It was in this position that I learned a lot about not-for-profit accounting and college finance and planning, and I also mastered the Art of the Argument. My final professional gig was as head of an independent school of 700+ students from 3 years old through the 12th grade. The Galloway School in Atlanta is a wonderful school — many of the children in my life attended there—and it was quite a privilege and great fun to lead the charge there for the final 12 years of my career. It convinced me that the honest, extensive and effective education of children should be our number one priority.

Photographer of the Month ~ Alice Reed

A closer view of our beloved N.C. Arboretum.

Hello beautiful world! I am Alice. I graduated from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire in 2017 with a bachelor`s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. This degree allows you to create your own major made up of a few different disciplines.  I decided to combine photography, journalism and sustainability. I have always had a love for seeing the world behind the lens.

Photography is quite simply an art of observation. Time slows down and you become more aware of the beauty you are surrounded by. It is about finding something interesting in what may seem like an ordinary place. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.

Currently, I am chasing my thirst for exploration around the globe. I have been living out of my shoes for the past five months immersing myself in the cultures across Southeast Asia and the east coast of Australia. This experience has allowed me to really dig deep into cultures, meet local people and document moments that express emotion that I have felt behind the lens. I am very passionate about our planet and inspiring others to get out into nature and experience what this beautiful world has to offer. Feel free to follow my adventure via Instagram.
